En hälsning från Maja
To begin with, while at home, I spend quite a bit of time with my friends from school and sports. My friends and I do a lot of different things together. Sometimes we just sit around and watch movies. Other times we go out to eat and watch sporting events, like American football games. My relationship with my friends feels more like a relationship with family members that have been a part of my life since I was born. We all trust each other and support each other through everything we do.
Similarly, my relationship with my mother, father, and sister is rather relaxed and more similar to a relationship with friends than family. I am very close with my family members, and I still manage to find time to stay at home and spend time with them between school and hanging out with my friends. My family is also the reason I have been able to study Swedish during summers. My family is of Swedish heritage and pushed and inspired me to start learning the language. I started learning Swedish in 2013 after attending a summer camp for language immersion. I almost immediately fell in love with learning languages and decided that it was something I wanted to continue doing. I also started taking Spanish classes my second year of high school and plan to continue studying languages in college. I spend a decent bit of my free time studying languages online and reading books in Swedish and Spanish.
Learning the language is the main thing I want to gain from being an exchange student, and I would say my main motivation would be to continue learning the language. However, I am also motivated by the thought of forming a close bond with you, my host family, and new friends from school and activities. I hope to feel at home and build personal relationships with you. I also want to experience the culture of the country and understand the culture and history. I have learned some parts of Swedish culture in the past while at summer camp and would like to expand upon what I have learned about things like common food that is eaten and unique holidays like Midsommar.
